Electric Castle

Getting to Electric Castle without a car

Bontida is 30 kilometres from Cluj and the festival itself tells you not to drive. The buses, the train, and the one that sells out.

Electric Castle happens at Banffy Castle in Bontida, about 30 kilometres from Cluj-Napoca. That distance is the single thing first timers get wrong. The festival is not in the city, the roads out there are small, and the festival's own advice is that driving and parking are not recommended.

So almost everyone travels, four days in a row, in both directions, through the night. There are two official ways to do it.

The EC buses

Non stop, day and night, from Iulius Mall and Expo Transilvania. In 2026 they were listed at 35 lei one way. Non stop is the important word. The festival runs around the clock and so do the buses, which is what makes it possible to leave at four in the morning without arranging anything in advance.

The EC train

Leaves from Gara Mica, drops you at Jucu, and a connecting bus takes you the rest of the way. In 2026 the whole Cluj to Bontida trip was listed at 35 lei.

This is the one that runs out. Seats are limited and they go early, so if you want the train, book it when you buy the ticket, not the week before.

Regular trains

Ordinary CFR trains also serve the route, which is the fallback if the EC train is gone.

The timing that decides your first day

In 2026 the gates opened at 2pm on Thursday 16 July and the festival did not close until 8am on the Monday. The EC Village campsite opened earlier, at midday on Wednesday, which is the detail that matters if you are camping. Arriving Wednesday afternoon means you pitch a tent in daylight instead of at two in the morning with a phone torch.

What we would do

Camp, and use the buses for anything you need in the city. If you are staying in Cluj instead, buy the train seat the moment it goes on sale and keep the bus as the plan for the way home at dawn.
