Two of Europe's biggest festivals are not happening in 2026, and one of them planned it

If you are planning a summer around festivals, two large gaps in the map are worth knowing about, and they are completely different kinds of gap.

Glastonbury, a year off on purpose

There is no Glastonbury in 2026. Not cancelled, not in trouble. A fallow year, which is a planned break the festival takes roughly every five years to let the farm, the village and the people who run it recover. It has worked this way since the 1980s.

What makes this useful rather than just interesting is that the festival has already published what comes next. Wednesday 23 June to Sunday 27 June 2027, at Worthy Farm. That is on their own information page, which puts them months ahead of almost every other festival in Europe for certainty.

The one thing still unknown is how tickets will be sold. Their answer: information arrives in autumn 2026. Anything on sale before that did not come from them.

EXIT, a change rather than a pause

For twenty five years EXIT meant Petrovaradin Fortress above the Danube at Novi Sad. In 2026 the festival's own site shows no edition at the fortress, and a travelling programme of separate events in other countries under the EXIT name in its place.

Reasons for the move have been reported by other outlets. We could not confirm any of them from the festival itself, so we are not repeating one. What we can say is what the site shows, and that if you were planning on the fortress this summer, you need to look at each travelling event separately, because they are different events with their own dates and tickets.

And one that is happening, but not when people think

Tomorrowland ran its two weekends in July 2026 and has not announced 2027. Dates for 2027 are circulating anyway, and they are last year's dates, which you can prove with a calendar. That one has its own piece: the dates being published for Tomorrowland 2027 are last year's.

The pattern worth noticing

Three of the biggest names in European festivals, and in all three cases the accurate answer today is different from the answer you get from a search result. One is resting, one has changed shape, one has not spoken yet.

The festivals themselves said all of this plainly on their own websites. It just was not where anybody looked.
